Dubious phone-craft from HMRC

Over the past few weeks we have received two telephone calls from people who purported to work for the debt management unit of HMRC. They called us on a mobile phone and left a number for us to call back because the person they wanted to talk to was not available.

On calling that number all we got was the name of a person and that person then told us they worked for the HMRC debt management unit. We then asked them to provide us with some security. They refused to provide us with security details because they wanted to know from us who we were calling about and they wanted the necessary accounts office reference.
