HMRC have changed the opening hours of almost 60 enquiry centres.
Visits to the centres have fallen 40% since 2006/07. The Revenue has ascribed the decrease to the majority of taxpayers making contact electronically or by telephone.
In 2008, the department tested shorter opening hours at ten enquiry centres, and now the taxman as changed the opening hours of a further 58 locations, following consultation with national and local representatives of taxpayer groups, HMRC staff members and other affected parties.
See here for a list of the centres and their altered hours.
Tax credits claimants who need to access emergency payments in those locations will in future be able to do so over the phone.
