HMRC are to update their Corporation Tax Online service on 23 November.
The move is in preparation for the requirement from 1 April 2011 that, for any accounting period ending after 31 March 2010, all company tax returns must be filed online with accompanying accounts and computations in iXBRL format.
Although the main features of the web service will remain the same, many existing filing software products that enable companies to file their returns online will no longer be accepted by Revenue systems.
Companies will therefore need to ensure their software incorporates the latest upgrade.
The current Corporation Tax Online return form will be withdrawn and replaced with updated software on 23 November. HMRC recommend that businesses planning to use the present return do so no later than 18 November.
Data saved on the return should be copied onto the taxpayer’s computer before 19 November 2009: it will not be possible to access information through the Corporation Tax online filing service after that date.
