I have a large portfolio of trusts and prior to the July payments being made I had completed and submitted online the 2009 returns for a substantial number of trusts of all sorts.
We are probably all aware of the problems that HMRC are having in processing these returns which doesn’t support their practice of encouraging agents to file online.
However the larger problem was unwittingly caused by the fact that having submitted these returns before 31 July this had enabled me to know the correct amount of the July payment.
Where this was less than the amount demanded I arranged payment of the amended amount. I thought that this would save me time and the trust money by not having to deal with the subsequent repayment.
