Automated message causes confusion

It was pointed out to me that when one calls the Tax Evasion Hotline the initial message is slightly confusing.

On calling 0800 788 887 a recorded voice answers:

‘Welcome to Jobcentre Plus part of the Department for Work and Pensions. This is a free call. However if you are calling from a mobile or non-BT landline your service provider may make a charge you.’

Before you think that you have dialled the wrong number you need to keep listening as the voice then continues:

‘This is the Tax Evasion Hotline please press any key to continue and we will answer your call as soon as possible.’

I asked HMRC what the connection was between the department and DWP and received the following reply:

‘Calls to the Tax Evasion Hotline are handled by Department for Work and Pensions...
