'No HMRC staff made redundant'

No HMRC staff have been made redundant, said Stephen Timms in reply to a Parliamentary written question.

Instead, HMRC redeploy ‘as many staff as possible into suitable alternative posts, both within HMRC and to other government departments’.

Mr Timms added that the department ‘has also run a number of lower cost voluntary early release schemes… Since April 2005 6,561 staff have left HMRC under these schemes at a cost of around £299 million. The savings in salary costs from these releases are estimated at £691 million.'
