It appears that some pensions from the Armed Forces Pension Scheme have been overpaid for a period of years

Several of my clients have recently advised me that they have been told that pensions from the Armed Forces Pension Scheme have been overpaid.

They have asked me whether this will affect their tax liabilities in any way. I presume that the short answer is no – other than that this will reduce if their income reduces.

Can readers explain exactly what is happening here what the problem is and how it will be rectified? I would like to sound as though I know what I am talking about when a client next asks about this.

Yet another Ministry of Defence administrative and computer blunder has resulted in the overpayment of pensions to former servicemen and servicewomen by the Armed Forces Pension Scheme. This situation has been publicised in the national press.
