RICHARD CURTIS provides a commentary on the review of the Finance Bill in the Third and Fourth Sittings of Standing Committee F.

STANDING COMMITTEE F commenced its scrutiny of this year's Finance Bill on 14 May. The Committee Chairman Mr Roger Gale kicked off proceedings with some 'housekeeping' points: Committee Members would be allowed to remove their jackets but (close to the hearts of those of us who use public transport) were requested to switch off their mobile phones. However recognising the relative importance of the Finance Bill to the World Cup and noting that the sittings were expected to overlap with the first matches Mr Gale did acknowledge that in due course the results might be welcomed via pagers!
