I read Mark Lee’s article in the 3 July issue of Taxation (A far, far better thing…) with interest.
I know Mark and I respect and admire all that he does, but it seems to me that he is missing the point.
Everything that he complains about is absolutely right and I am sure that all of us could add a lot more.
But the point is that it all creates more and more fee paying work for those of us who make it our business to offer the service of dealing with it for clients.
Over the years I have watched the deregulation movement with hypnotised fascination and the more it continues without achieving anything at all, the happier I am.
A cynical view, perhaps, but I’m a businessman and the more work that this Government in particular sends me, and the denser the rules become, the better.
