The Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) has announced the appointment of its first chief executive.
Peter Fanning will take up the role in September. He is the former acting CEO of the Office of Government Commerce, an independent office of the Treasury, and has held had a range of senior management positions across various sectors over the past 20 years.
The institute said that Mr Fanning's appointment is part of a process of change designed to develop opportunities and meet the challenges that professional organisations and charities increasingly face, such as constraints on volunteers' time, increased competition and the impending retirement of senior professional staff.
'The CIOT is an excellent organisation and the leading professional body for tax in the UK,' said Peter. 'It will be a privilege to guide it through this period of change.'
