Our apologies for the informal tone but you never did tell us your surname. We at the 2012 Olympic Organising Committee are sorry to have to advise you that we must reluctantly withdraw our acceptance of your quotation — or in view of subsequent events perhaps we should more properly say 'estimate' — for the construction of the Olympic Stadium on Hackney marshes 'the 'ole in the ground'.

Initially we were very happy with the construction costs advised; but we have started to consider some of the tax and other ramifications. It was very generous of you to 'knock off the VAT' in return for payment in cash — we do realise that many in business wish...
