They do say that everyone has got a book in them. Unfortunately in my case it was Tolley's Tax Office Directory.

OK so it's not on a par with Catch 22 Harry Potter or The Great Gatsby but there you go; and it was certainly much more useful than those three if you were trying to find out the telephone number of Kirkcaldy tax district or whether your local tax office had a letterbox through which you could post those tax returns at 8.30 p.m. on 31 January.

I can see that you are thinking 'yes that's the life for me; the book signings the appearances on Newsnight Review; hey who knows even the Richard & Judy Book Club. But like many a new venture the question is 'how do I get started?
