Is tax like football? Is there some connection there? Is the relationship between the profession and HMRC something like a football game each trying to find a weakness in the other side each trying to score; always on the lookout for a foul or a penalty.  And what about our demands for a level playing field?

Perhaps it is these similarities that have led to two of the Chartered Institute of Taxation's most valuable 'players' running out onto the pitch — or should that be 'running out to give their pitch' — as part of Tax Advice Week which began on Monday 15 October. A year ago Rob Ellerby CIOT president created some tax lessons with Scott Cohen who heads Arsenal's education department to promote a combined understanding of tax and improvement of numeracy skills.
