After a lot of caterwauling, the date of the Pre-Budget Report was announced. RICHARD CURTIS explains why Rufus the Dog thinks that this might induce catalepsy rather than cathexis

A little while ago when I told Rufus that according to AccountingWeb there was 'only one tax dog' and what's more that it wasn't him he almost choked on his corned beef! What about the considered articles he asked when he recovered; what about the Budget comments; what about that cute little chocolate brown Labrador called Ella?

I said that while I thought the first two were possible subjects for discussion in the pages of Taxation magazine it was probably better to draw a veil over his activities as far as the last one was concerned.

Rufus said that as I had brought up the subject we might be interested to know that he is rather perturbed that the level of dog ownership in the new Treasury Team is even worse than in the previous one. He feels that tax practitioners and HMRC's...
