HMRC are reviewing their powers of collecting tax. ALLISON PLAGER highlights the main points from their recent consultative document.

WHAT DO YOU think about HMRC having the power to take money direct from taxpayers' bank accounts? Is it a reasonable way to go about collecting money from recalcitrant non-paying taxpayers? Or is it an altogether dreadful idea and one that should be consigned to the recycling bin? Let Taxation know what you think by 13 September and we will send a response on behalf of our readers.
