Overpaying taxes

I believe that many taxpayers are overpaying direct taxes because the impact of European law on the UK is not widely appreciated. In short I believe that HMRC either ignore or do not properly apply EU law in managing direct taxation.
There have been a number of fairly high profile cases taken by multinational corporations but so far as the UK is concerned at least very few cases involving individuals or small or medium-sized businesses.
May I suggest that your management provides a forum to discuss areas where the UK legislation may contravene EU law and by that means we may between us save our clients from paying tax over and above what is lawfully due.
May I start the ball rolling with a few observations. I would then ask your readers to comment on those observations and add further instances to them....
