GAIN, a gift aid recovery consultancy, has devised a scheme that allows a greater percentage of money to go to charity from recycling mobile phones and printer cartridges.
Up to now cartridges and mobile phones have been treated as gifts in kind not qualifying for Gift Aid. However, a legal scheme has been set up that gets around this barrier by GAIN, along with charity partner Sense, the national deafblind charity.

There is very little work involved for the charity and recycling company. GAIN handles all of the administration and Gift Aid compliance. Higher rate taxpayers have an increased incentive to donate because they will get a tax relief of 23% on their donation. This means they are effectively getting paid to donate. For more information visit GAIN at www.gain.me.uk or contact Barry Gower at enquiries@gain.me.uk.
