The use of home expenses is a thorny subject, but can we be certain even when clients' details are meticulous? My client mows grass and does gardening. His garage is full of mowers and garden machinery. The office work is done in part of the dining room. The house has four bedrooms, dining room, kitchen, lounge and garage — eight parts. The running expenses of the house — electric, oil, rates, insurance, water, repairs, and mortgage interest — are £4,389. We have claimed one-eighth, i.e. £548.
