MY DAUGHTER WENT back to university a couple of weeks ago. She is in her third year which meant that she was guaranteed a place in a hall of residence.
Last year was a bit more nerve-wracking. She is at a collegiate university and her college does not at the moment guarantee all their students accommodation for their second year. She found herself on the waiting list for a room dependent on whether everyone above her on the list who had been offered one took it up. So she investigated several other possibilities. She applied to other colleges who might have spare rooms that they would let out to students from the same university but a different college and she provisionally reserved a place at an independent hall of residence which took students from any of the universities and higher education institutions in...
