In July 2004, my client exchanged contracts to purchase a property that was used for furnished holiday lettings. However, the owners at that time had been taking bookings from regular customers before putting the property up for sale and they therefore wished to continue to use and run the property over the summer lettings season. As a consequence, the sale was not completed until November 2004 — the vendors wanted to continue to run it for the summer season where they had taken the bookings before July.

However my client did become involved in the business to a limited extent before completion making various arrangements for the future running of the business incurring expenses and taking a couple of deposits at the end of the summer for Christmas break stays.
