My husband and wife clients operate, in partnership, a rural 365-day a year petrol filling station, large general store and, until four years ago, a motor vehicle repair workshop. Over 20 years ago, the husband suffered a double hernia whilst supporting a car engine. Surgery was performed on one hernia, but was deemed unnecessary for the other.

My husband and wife clients operate in partnership a rural 365-day a year petrol filling station large general store and until four years ago a motor vehicle repair workshop. Over 20 years ago the husband suffered a double hernia whilst supporting a car engine. Surgery was performed on one hernia but was deemed unnecessary for the other. However due to worsening of the second hernia and with recruitment of staff being virtually impossible the husband ceased the workshop and concentrated on helping his wife with the pumps and the store including deliveries restocking loading unloading etc.
His doctor recently concluded that a further operation was needed but following several last-minute cancellations and finding it impossible to perform any task he elected for private surgery at a cost of some £10 000 plus VAT.
