Continuing professional development is an important part of a tax professional's life. How can the CIOT's branches help, asks ALLISON PLAGER.

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT is a fact of life for members of most professional bodies be they tax advisers accountants lawyers or doctors. Members of The Chartered Institute of Taxation must undertake at least 90 hours of CPD each calendar year. Of this 20 hours must be structured training i.e. training which involves other individuals and the rest must be unstructured i.e. solo training. The latter includes reading so reading Taxation each week counts towards this total   and is easy to do in that you can pick up your weekly magazine and read it say on the train going to and from work. Structured training however requires a bit more input and arranging.
Meeting CPD requirements can be done by attending relevant conferences seminars workshops and other meetings during the year. These are put on by a...
