External advice will be key to accurate status decisions

With less than a year until IR35 reform is extended to the private sector many contractors say that independent reviews hold the key to accurate status decisions according to research carried out by IR35 specialist Qdos.

The study of more than 1 000 limited company contractors showed 48% of them consider independent contract assessments are vital to setting IR35 status accurately. Nearly a quarter believe that sharing the reasons behind a decision along the supply chain will also help.

Some 22% think that holding engagers responsible for inaccurate decisions is most important.

The critical factor according to 6% was ‘other’ methods such as the need for these parties to be better educated on IR35.
