Easter break
Taxation will have a week in the run-up to Easter, and will return on 12 April.
RPI
The value of the retail prices index for January and February 2012 is 238.0 and 239.9 respectively.
UK/Swiss protocol
On 20 March 2012, the UK and Switzerland signed a protocol to the agreement between the UK and Switzerland on co-operation in tax matters that was signed on 6 October 2011. The changes make the agreement compliant for EU purposes.
Renovation relief
As announced in the 2011 Budget, the business premises renovation allowance, that was due to end on April 2012, is to be extended for a further five years. The statutory instrument required to make this change has now been laid and takes effect from 11 April 2012.
Household costs
HMRC have agreed a monthly rate for individuals who have to work at home of £18 a month. The weekly rate is £4 from 6 April 2012.
VAT online
All UK VAT-registered businesses have to submit their VAT returns online, and pay electronically, for periods starting on or after 1 April 2012.
