HMRC dismiss 3,400 job losses claim

93 Revenue offices to close

HMRC have dismissed as 'scaremongering' a claim that thousands of employees are set to lose their jobs.

Following the completion of a review by the Revenue of office accommodation around the country it has been announced that 93 offices will be shut down.

In response the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) claimed that by 2011 more than 3 400 redundancies will be made a result of the closures in England's north-west east and south-west and Yorkshire the Humber area Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland.

'In these uncertain economic times these closures and job losses will hit businesses the public and the communities they serve ' remarked PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka.

He added: 'Office closures and job cuts will do nothing to tackle the £21.5 billion worth of uncollected tax and £25 billion lost through tax evasion.
