Two organisations have launched new web offerings to make the tax world more accessible in the increasingly online age.

The first is the revamped site from the CIOT — www.tax.org.uk — which has been redesigned so that members, students, those in need of tax technical information, and people seeking the advice of a chartered tax adviser can find what they are more quickly and easily than ever before.

As well as being made more navigable, the site has been given a 'fresh and modern' new look.

The overhaul follows last month's pioneering move when the CIOT became the first tax body to give a lecture in Second Life, the successful virtual word online, via an avatar named Tax Anderton CTA.

The CIOT also has a group on Facebook, where its cartoon character "Jack Taxable" maintains a group.

Meanwhile, www.TaxAdviceNetwork.co.uk has been set up to offer general accountancy practices professional legal advice.

The brainchild of Mark Lee, a former chairman of the ICAEW Tax Faculty, it brings together 20 independent tax specialists to create a virtual firm, giving access to advice across the complete tax spectrum.

The site includes customisable discussion forums exclusively for tax specialists to exchange views about issues that affect them. They can also market their services and gain access to an online networking and support facility.
