The impression I formed from the piece was that administrators concern themselves only with the alleged role of agents as instruments of tax avoidance; there seemed to be not a hint of understanding that many agents would not recognise a tax avoidance scheme if they saw one — never mind actively market them. Not a thought it seems for our primary role which is to enable our clients to comply with the demands of the tax system — if we were not there to do so the wretched system would fall down altogether. Therein would seem to lie the nub of the problem: there is simply no recognition of that role but only of our supposed involvement in tax avoidance.
