MIKE TRUMAN reports on the ICAEW Tax Faculty's Wyman Symposium, 'Intermediaries — in the way or the only way?'

THE 2007 WYMAN symposium was held at the ICAEW on 12 July. The Chairman of the Tax Faculty Paul Aplin summarised the topic to be discussed and then introduced the four speakers: Rebecca Benneyworth Theresa Middleton Dave Hartnett and Henk Koller.

Since last year there has been more co-operation between HMRC and the profession especially on e-filing issues and that has shown what can be achieved — and needs to be achieved - elsewhere. The symposium would look at the relationship between intermediaries and HMRC. This has changed significantly over the past ten years becoming increasingly impersonal because of HMRC's 'channel strategy' of contact via call centres and helplines.
