Online filing
Over the last 25 years I cannot recall an article or a letter in your publication praising or thanking the Inland Revenue (now HMRC) and they do not spring to their own defence.
An article in Taxation 19 May is again very critical of the online PAYE system.
Perhaps I can speak for the tens of thousands trying to get through on the helpline who, through no fault of their own, have been unable to access all or part of the online system and unable to submit when they can access it.

Until mid-May it was my view that the person responsible for the online filing system should be publicly flogged. I cannot be the only practitioner who has wasted more days than he can count on the system failures. We were unable to work for much of April and early May...
