Non-dom tax reform – not as simple as it may seem

It is reported that the Treasury is looking again at the government’s proposals for reform of the taxation of non-doms. So here are two questions.

Alexandra is a Greek national from a wealthy family with shipping interests. She is married to a British man and has lived in London for the last five years though she has properties all over the world. Should she pay UK tax on the income from the various trusts round the world in which she has an interest?

Ahsa comes from Tanzania where her family have a farm. She is a trained doctor and has been living in London for five years working at a large hospital to gain experience before she goes back home. She sends much of the money she earns back to her family. Unfortunately she was killed in a car accident a week ago in London. Should her estate pay UK...
