Looking back over ten years

Unbelievably I find that 2025 marks the tenth anniversary of my becoming editor-in-chief of Taxation. It seems like only yesterday that I stepped gingerly into that new role conscious of the history of the magazine and the affection in which it is held by its readers. Ten years on I may be more aware of the mechanics of how the magazine is put together – when I first started it seemed a complete mystery – but I hope I have never lost the enthusiasm I felt when I sat down to write my first editorial.

I’ve looked back at what I wrote then. I had picked out three themes. The first was what I called the ‘Hodge agenda’ – the public debate over the tax affairs of large corporates. Things have moved on a little since then. Mrs Hodge has become Baroness Hodge...
