Readers’ Forum never ceases to amaze me. I don’t know what is more extraordinary: the range of problems which clients throw at their tax advisers or the ability of our readers to answer the most obscure questions with absolute authority.
In the days before I joined the magazine, the forum was always the first thing I turned to. Not only was it consistently interesting, but I always hoped that somebody would provide a solution to the problem I was grappling with that morning: occasionally I got lucky. I felt very proud the first time I was approached to contribute an answer, though I now realise that the then editor was at the stage where his usual correspondents had, for once, failed him and he was reaching out to people in the hope that one of them would take the bait.
As editor I always enjoy seeing the questions and, even more importantly, the answers that follow. Many of our contributors respond week after week and I would like to take the opportunity here to thank them on your behalf for all they do for us. Certainly in my time here we have never had to say ‘sorry, nobody can answer that!’.
If you do one thing...
