Europe’s middle market businesses are calling on law makers to increase attempts to tax the world’s largest digital companies despite a backlash from the US. RSM has found that 84% of European middle market businesses believe that multinational tech companies do not pay their fair share of tax in a survey conducted by the European Business Awards.
As a result 62% believe that a digital services tax on the world’s largest technology companies will help to level the playing field.
In response to the imposition of digital taxes the US has threatened to bring retaliatory trade measures against France and the UK. Yet 62% of European middle market businesses believe the French and UK governments are right to push ahead with a digital services tax with 66% calling for a levy of 3% or more on local revenue.
