A record 11,122,967 taxpayers completed their self-assessment tax returns by the 31 January deadline, HMRC has revealed. However, 11.7m returns were due so 958,296 (8.18%) remain outstanding.
HMRC received more than 702,171 taxpayers’ returns on 31 January. The peak hour for filing was between 4pm and 5pm when 56,969 were filed. Some 10.4m returns (93.95%) were filed online.
