Should the UK introduce an online sales tax? The short answer is no.

Despite thousands of bricks and mortar retailers closing their doors during multiple lockdowns with some disappearing all together the death of the high street was already a topic of conversation before the pandemic. The rise of e-commerce provided alternative channels for consumers to buy goods forcing traditional retailers either to embrace digital selling or risk losing out to online competitors.

Buyers are now spoilt for choice on where they shop and it is no surprise that many prefer exploring the products different brands have to offer without wasting time travelling to a physical store. Further with the cost of living at an all-time high more than ever buyers will be taking advantage of each avenue to ensure the products they are purchasing suit their budget.
