No change to Welsh income tax rates

The Welsh government has committed to leave Welsh income tax rates as they are for the duration of the current assembly which is due to continue until May 2021. This means there will be no change to overall income tax rates for taxpayers in Wales.

Ritchie Tout vice-chair of the Chartered Institute of Taxation’s Welsh taxes technical committee said: ‘We welcome the sensible decision to avoid changing the income tax rates in Wales. It is best to let the system of identifying Welsh taxpayers settle in for at least a year before giving any cause for further confusion among taxpayers by changing rates or bands.’

The National Audit Office has published a report  Administration of Welsh income tax 2017-18  on HMRC’s progress towards implementing the Welsh rates of income tax. It provides:
