McDermott Will & Emery welcomes Candice Nichol as a partner in its tax practice.
A seasoned, multidisciplinary tax professional, Candice joins from a big four firm. She works with private equity funds and investors on the structuring of all types of international transactions across all asset classes. She also advises clients in the asset management, and financial institutions industries, with a focus on cross-border deals and fund and balance sheet structuring. Candice also has experience with contentious tax matters.

MHA has appointed Peter Carville as a partner to lead its financial services tax team. With more than 30 years’ experience in the financial services sector, most recently as a partner with KPMG, Peter brings a wealth of knowledge to this new role.
He has experience of in-bound international tax and business transformation and has advised on profit and capital attribution, bank taxes, withholding tax, stamp duty reserve tax, securitisations and treasury tax matters.

Nick Skidmore has joined PKF Smith Cooper’s Birmingham office as a manager in the firm's transactions tax team. Since starting his career in 2012, he has amassed a wealth of experience, gained primarily from advising private and family-owned businesses.

Digital transformation expert Mike Bracken and tax specialist Bill Dodwell have been appointed as non-executive directors to the HMRC board, which is chaired by exchequer secretary to the Treasury James Murray.
Mike has led digital operations and transformations in large-scale public and private sector organisations in the UK and Europe. He was the founder and executive director of the UK government digital service (GDS) and was the UK’s first government chief data officer. He will chair the board’s modernisation and reform committee.
Bill was tax director of the Office of Tax Simplification, having been head of tax policy at Deloitte. A former president of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and member of the general anti-abuse rule advisory panel, Bill will chair the board’s closing the tax gap committee.
Their appointments are for a fixed term of one year in accordance with the relevant guidance.
RSM has made several promotions to director in its tax department. Evelyn Partners has appointed Vanessa Lee as partner in its northern private client tax team in Leeds.
With more than 27 years’ experience, she advises high net worth individuals, families, family offices and trustees on a wide range of complex tax and dispute planning. Vanessa has previously held senior positions at BDO and EY.
Forvis Mazars has promoted Jim McDevitt to tax partner in the corporate team of the London office and also Adam Cooper, who will lead the tax valuation practice in Manchester.
Jennifer Escott has been promoted to associate tax manager HURST. Since joining the firm last year, she has been involved in projects ranging from corporation tax and personal tax compliance to advising shareholders on the tax implications of selling and exiting businesses, as well as mergers and acquisitions.
Abigail Nott, a specialist in tax, trust and estate planning for UK and international individuals, has joined Farrer & Co’s private client team as a senior counsel. Formerly with McDermott Will & Emery, she advises international individuals, families, and family offices and trustees across a range of international and domestic private client matters.
Jonathon Goldstone also from McDermott Will & Emery joins the firm as private client associate. He advises clients with their estate planning, international trust structures.
Rawlinson & Hunter LLP has appointed Lisa Festerling as a partner specialising in US/UK tax for private clients and internationally mobile individuals.
She has experience in a range of topics from pre-relocation planning, streamlined filing, expatriation, taxation of pensions and investments to complex tax return compliance and foreign reporting.

Mercer & Hole has made two promotions to partner – Martin Coulson and Mark Baxter – in the corporate and business tax team.

Mark works mainly from the firm’s Milton Keynes office. He has more than 27 years’ experience as a tax specialist in the corporate and private client arenas.
Grant Thornton UK LLP has recruited Nick Warth and Joe Groenen as partners in the corporate and multinational tax practice.
Nick was formerly with KPMG, where he led the Western Australian transfer pricing practice. Based in Cambridge, Nick will work with clients in the UK and internationally. He advises clients across a range of industries, including energy and natural resources, real estate, life sciences, defence and technology.
Also from KPMG, Joe previously spent several years in FTSE 100 businesses as an international tax director. He specialises in corporate entity reorganisation, cross border tax issues and supply chain and UK international tax rules.

Moore Kingston Smith LLP has hired Richard Blakeley and Thomas Dalby as partners.
Richard provides capital allowances advice to plant-intensive businesses, property owners and occupiers on all types and sizes of projects and commercial buildings. He will launch and lead the firm’s capital allowances specialism, working with institutional funds, UK and offshore public and private companies, private high net worth investors, livery companies, owner occupiers and occupational tenants.
Thomas Dalby is a partner in the firm’s business tax and legal teams, working with clients from founders starting their business journey to international listed groups. A barrister and specialist in employee share schemes, he advises on all aspects of employee reward. He brings experience working with private-equity-backed groups, both buy and sell side, and advising on management equity in buy-out vehicles.

Saffery has appointed two partners to its London-based corporation tax team.
Zoe Thomas joins from Evelyn Partners and has experience in the provision of domestic and international corporate tax advice, fund structuring and M&A transactions, with a specific focus on the real estate and outsourcing sectors.
Jonathan Hornby joins from Alvarez and Marsal. He works with multinational organisations across a wide range of industries, including retail, manufacturing, real estate, technology, management consultancy and utilities.
