Statutory sick pay

HMRC has updated its guidance on how to deal with statutory sick pay for employees self-isolating as a result of Covid-19.

Collaboration on tax

The International Monetary Fund, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, United Nations and World Bank have established an integrated website on how low and middle-income countries can strengthen tax systems to address urgent development challenges, including the coronavirus pandemic.

HMRC toolkits

Various toolkits have been updated including income tax losses, private and personal expenditure, and directors’ loan accounts for 2019-20 self-assessment tax returns.

Finance Bill 2019-20

The second reading of the Bill is provisionally scheduled for 22 April. A committee of the whole House will then debate the Bill over two days on 27 and 28 April. 

Working from home

The Chartered Institute of Taxation has produced a guide to help employees and employers understand the tax implications of expenses and benefits when working from home.

Construction industry

HMRC has published a consultation on tackling avoidance in the construction industry scheme. Comments should be emailed to cisconsultations@hmrc.gov.uk by 28 May.

Easter break

Taxation will have a week off after the Easter weekend and will return on 23 April 2020.
