Scottish Budget postponed
Scottish finance secretary Derek Mackay has confirmed that due to the general election and the cancellation of the UK government budget it will not be possible to publish the Scottish Budget 2020-21 until after Christmas. A new date is to be agreed with the Scottish parliament’s finance committee. It had been scheduled to take place on 12 December.
Doctors’ pensions
The secretary of state for health and social care Matt Hancock has approved arrangements for NHS England to compensate clinicians for any reduction in pension benefits arising from the use of ‘scheme pays’ to settle an annual allowance tax charge for 2019-20. The aim is to remove barriers to senior clinicians working additional hours so that they can respond to extra pressures over the winter period.
