Is it time to update the marriage vows? They are not immutable – after all the word ‘obey’ is now often omitted. What I have in mind is an amendment so that they now read:
I (name) take you (name)
to be my wife/husband
to have and to hold
from this day forward;
for better for worse
for richer for poorer
in sickness and in health
to love and to cherish
to agree to enter into a binding and irrevocable election under section two hundred and twenty-two of the Taxation of Chargeable Gains Act 1992 to nominate **** as our main residence
till death us do part.
Rolls off the tongue doesn’t it? Do you think it...
