The EU has launched its transaction network analysis (TNA) tool to help to detect VAT fraud by providing tax authorities automated analysis of VAT data from intra-EU supplies.

The tool will be used in the framework of the new administrative co-operation regulation, which entered into force in November 2018 and will apply from 1 January 2020.

Developed by member states and the European Commission, it will enable officials to cross-check information with criminal records, databases and information held by Europol and OLAF, the EU’s anti-fraud agency, and to

co-ordinate cross-border investigations.
