Creative sector tax relief soars during 2018-19

In 2018-19 £1.1bn was paid out across all of the creative industries tax reliefs according to the HMRC’s latest statistics. This is an increase from £0.9bn in 2017-18. Since the current film tax relief was introduced in 2002 £3.3bn has been paid out to 5 295 claims.

There were 90 British high-end television programmes completed in 2018-19 which claimed high-end television tax relief with UK expenditure of £839m. A total of £821m has been paid in response to 770 claims since the relief was introduced in 2013.

This was the first year statistics were available for museum and galleries exhibition tax relief. These show that since it was introduced in 2017 £4m has been paid to 50 claims representing 300 exhibitions.
