The coronavirus job retention scheme (CJRS) will be extended to the end of October 2020. Rishi Sunak chancellor of the Exchequer confirmed that there will be no changes to the way in which the scheme operates until the end of July but from August the it will operate ‘with greater flexibility to support the transition back to work’ with employers allowed to bring furloughed employees back to work part-time.
Furloughed workers will continue to receive 80% of their current salary up to £2 500 a month but the government will ask employers to start sharing the costs from August. More information is expected by the end of May.
