From April, HMRC will be testing its making tax digital (MTD) for income tax self assessment (ITSA) system to ensure it provides agents and their clients with the ‘best experience’.
In its latest Agent Update, HMRC is encouraging agents to take part in this programme to help shape the system. It says this will help agents familiarise themselves and their clients with MTD for ITSA ahead of its introduction in 2026. A dedicated customer support team will be available during testing to help agents through the process .
To take part in testing, agents need to be registered with HMRC for an agent services account (ASA). They will also need to check with clients before signing them up. HMRC says it will provide more information on how to sign up and who is eligible in future agent updates and on GOV.UK.
