HMRC is sending annual renewal packs to tax credits claimants between 2 May and 19 June 2024.
Claimants have until 31 July to check their details are correct and update HMRC if there has been a change in their circumstances, such as to living arrangements, childcare, working hours or income (increase or decrease).
There are two types of renewal packs. Notices with a black stripe are automatically renewed while claimants receiving a notice with a red stripe need to confirm their circumstances to renew.
HMRC recommends that claimants renew online via GOV.UK or using the HMRC app.
The 2024-25 tax credits notices may show predicted payments for the tax year 2025-26 – HMRC says these are automatically generated and should be disregarded.
Tax credits are ending on 5 April 2025 and will be replaced by universal credit.
