Vouchers received for artistic works.

The son of a client is disabled and receives various state benefits. He is unable to work as an employee or in self employment and lives with his parents who support him. Inspired by a visit to an artists’ workshop the son started showing an aptitude for sculpture. Keen that he should pursue this interest as a form of therapy his parents bought a kiln and a supply of clay and he has made some very distinctive sculptures. These came to the attention of family friends and relatives and they have acquired some of these. Being cared for the son has no immediate need of money so was not seeking payment. However the ‘buyers’ wanted to show some recognition of his efforts and it was agreed that they would give vouchers for suppliers of art materials that he uses and this arrangement has continued as...
