Child benefit

Taxpayers can no longer authorise an adviser to deal with their high income child benefit charge using form 64-8. Instead they must complete postal form CH995 or use the online service (tinyurl.com/y7vbvupw).

Discount tax case

HMRC is appealing against the ‘discount tax’ ruling in Hargreaves Lansdown Asset Management Ltd (TC6383). Chris Hill chief executive of Hargreaves Lansdown said: ‘Following the decision by the tribunal in our favour we see no reason why we would not be successful at appeal. The process is likely to complete in the first half of 2019.’

MTD
