April is always a busy time of the year for payroll – trying to finalise one tax year and prepare for the next. With so many changes for 2018-19 there is much to think about.

Let’s suppose we have processed a client’s final payroll run for 2017-18 or so we thought. We now find there are some changes that we have not previously been advised of. A situation that is more common than one would think.

 

Adjustments after 19 April

Once 19 April has passed any further full payment submission (FPS) files submitted for 2017-18 will be rejected by HMRC. However the earlier year update (EYU) facility allows adjustments to be made for 2017-18 from 20 April.
