MPs on the Public Bill Committee continued discussing online marketplaces when they reconvened for the sixth sitting of the Finance (No 2) Bill. Clause 38 extends the scope of existing joint and several liability provisions to include UK businesses. An online marketplace operator can be held jointly and severally liable for VAT payable by any person selling goods through the platform who fails to comply with any requirement imposed by VATA.
