Low pay

More than 350 employers have been named by the Department for Business Energy & Industrial Strategy for underpaying their workers the national minimum or living wage. The businesses had underpaid 15 513 workers by £994 685. Offenders included the hairdressing hospitality and retail sectors and charities. As well as recovering arrears for some of the employees HMRC issued penalties worth around £800 000.

 

Estate agencies

HMRC and the National Trading Standards Estate Agency Team have agreed new procedures for using existing legal gateways to share information on estate agencies. Effective from January 2017 this makes it more difficult for non-compliant estate agency businesses to operate outside...
